King Philip's War - a poem

King Philip, aka Metacom or Metacomet (1638-1676), a Wampanoag chief, led the confederation of Algonquin tribes in New England. Philip fought against the English colonists and members of other tribes in what has been described as the bloodiest war in American history. This piece is an extended lyric-a work of memory and imagination-not history. It must be so, for Philip is as much a phantom to historians as he was to the soldiers who hunted him.
