At Scottish Walk in Alexandria on Dec. 7th, 2024

Scottish Walk in Old Town

On December 7th I met up with my group, the Scottish American Women's Society in Old Town Alexandria. I have been involved with this group since I wrote my book, A Scottish Migration to Alexandria. They always have a table at September's Scottish Games in La Plata, Virginia, which is quite a fun event. These folks are true Scotland lovers, and many have taken the trip to their ancestor's home country recently. A Scottish friend jokes that some Americans are more Scottish than the Scots! After waving my book at all the people at the parade, I joined my husband and his siblings, and walked the parade route a second time! After many years of discussing it, this was the first time my in-laws participated in this annual parade. I had met a Hamilton at the Scottish Games who prodded us into joining his group. Some in our family felt we needed more authentic Scottish banners, like one for the favorite soccer team in Scotland. Though that may not have had much recognition from the American spectators, the kilts certainly did!

Focusing on Hats

New fleece stocking cap

I am finally making stocking caps, long time in the planning. A double layer of fleece make these very warm.

Fleece beret with applique details

I sewed fleece embellishments for added interest on this comfy beret. It has a flannel lining.

Last Markets of 2024!

There are only two more farmer's markets this year for me, and one outdoor holiday fair, tomorrow. Saturday the 14th I will be at Del Ray's Market Square for the Del Ray Candy Crawl. This market is all afternoon from 1:30 to 5pm. Last year's Crawl was very lively with people wearing the wildest festive red and green outfits. My hats keep selling but I have a few more which you can see this weekend.

On Sunday, I will be at West End Farmer's Market which is now open year round! For our first winter we have a robust market with ten to fourteen vendors. West End Farmer's Market is in Brenman Park off Duke Street on Sunday mornings from 8:30 to 1pm.

In January and February I will not be in outdoor markets. If you are interested in seeing a hat or other item in the new year, we can arrange a meeting. To get in touch see my contact info below, or respond to this email.
