Hello from Ellen at Yellow Dot Shop,
Now that we are past February, I am back at Old Town North Market on Sundays! My first day back was glorious, and I sold some of my new women's long sleeve shirts with my new design, and also my new t-shirts and bags.
Recently, I met with Dr. Alfred Taylor in Arlington to get some of his books to put in Yellow Dot Shop. As we sat in Busboys and Poets, various Arlington dignitaries walked by, and some stopped in to say hello to Dr. Taylor. Turns out I was meeting with a prominent member of Arlington society, a mover and shaker, responsible for the renaming of his neighborhood of Nauck to Green Valley. Dr. Taylor's family was one of the first families to own land in Green Valley, which is next to Shirlington. Being a retired professor and former Acting Dean of a college of the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), Dr. Taylor was encouraged to write the history of Green Valley, and some of the successes of its inhabitants. He wrote the book, and then went on to write about his relative, a "Buffalo Soldier" in the 1800's. He also wrote his own life story. All three books were designed and produced by Dr. Taylor, who, like me has a background in commercial printing. As a young man Dr. Taylor was a hot-metal typesetter and pressman. As a young woman I started my career as a computer page layout designer.
I will be at Old Town North Market on sundays from 10am to 2pm throughout March, at 901 N. Royal Street in Old Town North, Alexandria, by the tennis courts. We will be closed on Easter Sunday, March 31st. Starting in April, I will be at West End Farmer's Market at Brenman Park in the Cameron Station neighborhood.
