June: Speaking, Father's Day, Purses

I have had my purses, cards and Scottish Migration books in the "Made in ALX" online shop, which sells items made by local artists and writers. My items have been in the pop-up spaces they have had around Alexandria over the last two years. Now they are opening a permanent space at 533 Montgomery Street in North Old Town Alexandria! We are excited to have the grand opening on June 11th and 12th weekend.

 

The new store is at the intersection of N. St. Asaph Street, near the Sheraton Suites. There are many restaurants in the same block, and it's a few blocks from the river. There is FREE retail parking in the garage at 530 First Street, one block north. 

I have some of my printed bags, children's shirts, art prints and greeting cards in the shop, and will be sending them more items as I make them.

I hope you can come and see the new Made in ALX!

 

June 23: Talk on Scotland at Mount Vernon

 

Celebrating Presbyterian Meeting House 250th Anniversary

 

On a Thursday evening in June, I will speak for about 15 minutes with images, telling the story of how so many Scots came to leave their country and take the treacherous journey to America. William Gregory came to Alexandria at the age of 18 in 1807. He was a member of the Presbyterian Meeting House. The Meeting House historian was very helpful with this project. I was given materials which led me to Willam's descendants, who in turn, sent me letters written by William himself!

Also speaking, will be David O. Smith, on his book, The Armstrong Brothers.

I am thrilled to speak, and I hope you can come to Mount Vernon's auditorium in the visitor's center.
