Ellen with her new Ship and Wilson Bridge painting

I have been watercolor painting! My latest project has been a juxtaposition of shapes. This is Alexandria's new refurbished merchant ship, Tall Ship Providence, sailing towards the amazing Wilson Bridge. The bridge itself is a wonder in concrete. The Shapes these two make seem to compare in an interesting way. And the sky! I have been photographing skies. The sky is such an impossibility to really reproduce, so I made it continue the lines of the bridge and ship with contrails and clouds. I am using a limited color palette here with only one warm color, and all the rest made up of blues and a brown.

Winter Hat Collection

I am finally catching up with a nice collection of hats! Hats are made with wool or fleece on the outside, and all have soft cotton linings for double-layer warmth. Hats are snug with elastic in the back headband. My "adult pom-pom" is a rectangle of faux fur. I will have them at holiday markets and online. This Saturday, November 22nd, I will be at Mt. Vernon Unitarian Church's big craft fair, south of old town.

Tie-Dyed Hoodies

I ordered these warm hoodie sweatshirts from my favorite brand, Port & Co. I bought a small number and added my Alexandria VA print with the Masonic Temple, a train, a jumping squirrel and leaves and acorns for Autumn.

Watch my Movie

My movie - A Scottish Migration is viewable now

My 25-minute movie is on Patreon.com and you can watch it there by clicking this image. Voice-over is by me and two Scots. It has my own animations and illustration, and wonderful music by local musician Bonnie Rideout. Bonnie is an acclaimed Scottish fiddler, local to Alexandria. On the Patreon website, you can also see B-roll footage of my interview with a Scottish historian as we look out over the River Clyde. Also my video examining how ancient Britons used to cook, and more. See the movie here!
