Art Show Open House
Friday, February 25, 2022
4 - 7pm
At the end of February, Friday the 25th, you are welcomed at my last Art Show Open House in my Mt. Vernon Avenue location. We have original mosaics by Alexandria legend Nina Tisara, glowing garden prints, framed and ready to hang by photographer Steven Halperson, and oil paintings of Eastern Shore landscapes by Ingrid Matuszewski. I will have hand-printed screen print art, very small print runs, signed and numbered.
All works can be pre-purchased, and picked up at the end of the Show, or delivered or mailed later.Join us for some light eats and music from vinyl records on my record player. It's sure to be a fun evening, so I hope you can stop by!
Shop Closing, New Events
Though I have loved every minute in my first retail space in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, I will be moving back to my home studio at the end of February. My Shop space is bright and great to work in, and I love the access to constant foot traffic. Being in Del Ray, where I have lived for 30 years, is nicely familiar. I have seen people I know on the street, and the business association zoom meeting was full of familiar faces. I would have tackled the rent and expenses, but to make this space work, I needed to have my products out front, the door open, signage, and outdoor lights. These things are not all possible in this space.
Once I came to terms that my lovely shop will close, the next thought was how many of the Shop's items would I want to move back into the house. This lead to the decision to end my collection of used books and music CDs. The difficulty of storing and moving these items had already been weighing on me. So Yellow Dot Shop will move forward with custom art prints, framed and ready to hang, custom printed shirts and clothing, along with greeting cards, jewelry, candles, and special event toys. My focus will be more on hand-made items and art. Every business has to reevaluate its offerings. I remember when Pier One Imports did away with their clothing. Out with the losers and on with the winners. It's the way to grow and improve.
Events Planned for 2022
From March on, I will be at Old Town North Market on Sundays. When warmer weather starts (April), I plan on returning to the Sunday Market at West End Farmer's Market in the Carlyle neighborhood of Alexandria.
For the first Saturday every month, I hope to be in the Del Ray Vintage & Flea Market.
On October 1st, I hope to have my tent up at Del Ray's "Art on the Avenue" festival.
I have to be accepted to each of these events. My applications are in, and I will let you know if they come through.
[Update Feb. 21, 2022: I HAVE been accepted into Art On The Avenue, October 1st! My tent will be near Executive Lock & Key hardware store in the 2000 block, between E. Howell St. and E. Windsor. One block north of my present Shop! I have not heard back from Del Ray Vintage & Flea yet. Maybe this is a sign that that is not the best venue for Yellow Dot?]
